As we welcome 2017, the Union City Public Library staff is looking forward to working closely with current and future patrons to enhance its level of service. As a gesture of gratitude for your patronage we are declaring a general amnesty to all who failed to return library material in the past year. If you return past due material by the end of February 2017, all your fines will be waived, and your good standing restored. We would like to encourage you to come back to the library to borrow new material, and to use its programs and services.
What to expect in 2017? The library has acquired an online subscription to World Book Encyclopedia which can be accessed from inside the premises of the library without authentication, and from outside of the library with a library card. If you wish to learn a new language you can open the Rosetta Stone database to learn any of the 30 languages offered (by clicking here or selecting the "Jersey Clicks" icon on the library's resource page). We have recently acquired five laptop computers to be used for homework at the 43rd Street library. We now have 24 computers in the children's department at 43rd Street alone! There are Free Phone chargers at both branches.
For Spanish speaking patrons we offer, in addition to print material, the following online resources: Referencia Latina, Ebsco Host Espanol, 20 daily newspapers from Spanish speaking countries (the newspapers include Listin Diario, Primera Hora, La Republica, and El Universal), and full text classical Spanish literature though Project Gutenberg. All these resources can be accessed free of cost, and without use of passwords, from the library's website. We have designed the website to be user friendly, and self-explanatory, and we hope that you are not disappointed when searching for information. For additional assistance using any of our online resources, please call 201-866-7500, or 201-866-7503 during regular library hours.
In 2017 we will continue many of the programs we are currently offering, and also add new ones. For a complete calendar of events please refer to our website here, visit one of our branches, call, or email us. We hope we currently meet most of your needs be it for relaxation: Meditation at 18th Street, Yoga at 43rd , Knitting, and Jewelry design, both at 18th Street, or instruction: Citizenship classes at 43rd Street, Computer help by appointment at both branches, Math help at both branches, Math club for elementary school students at 43rd Street. Toddler's programs at both branches, and Teenage Graphic Novel Club, at 18th Street.
Our gratitude to Mayor Stack and the Union City Public Library Board of Trustees for their guidance and continued support. Happy and healthy 2017!
